Week 9,Thing 23

I have really enjoyed working my way through the Twenty Three Things. It was a lot more work than I thought it would be, but enjoyable work. I really enjoyed playing with the avatar sites and I can't wait to go back to Flickr and put in some of my pictures. The best part of doing these 23 Things has been learning about blogging. I can understand why it has become so popular. It is nice having a place to express my opinions and to see other peoples opinions on the same topics.
It has also been fun working with co-workers. I love to check what other people have done and said. We have had a great time helping each other. I don't think I would have made it through without a lot of help from my friends.

Week 9 Thing 22

We have access to Overdrive at the Library, so I started looking through the titles and will download one to my computer tonight. The "Help" section on the website ids very good and answered any question I thought of, like How do we return the books. I also spent some time looking a at project Guttenberg and If I get a MP3 player I will use it to download some of the books I found on that site.

Week 9 Thing 21

Finding a podcast that Had a Rss feed to put on my bloglines was a challenge. I looked at all the sites and listened to some very boring podcasts and couldn't find one that had that lovely little RSS button. I finally gave up and asked for some help from Heather. Now I have a link to a Harry Potter podcast that I can listen to any time.

Week 9 Thing 20

I will have to come back and spend more time exploring YouTube. I wish they could give a little summary of what the videos contained because I found myself judging the video by it's "cover". I would start a video and half way through decide I didn't want to spend another 2 or 3 minutes watching it and moved on. Britain's got talent was the first one I wanted to see the whole thing, especially when Connie performs. I'm not even a fan of American Idol.
YouTube, I'll be back.

Week 8 Thing 19

The Web2.0 Awards list is amazing. I look at the games category and choose two different games form two different sites. the #1 game site is Arcaplay.com. This was an easy to use website and I enjoyed playing a few games of Sudoku. the other site was Games2Web.com. I played volleyball and I WAS TERRIBLE. I can't wait to go back to find some other great games.
I noticed that many of the sites we have been looking at are on the different lists, like Technorati and Bloglines.

Week 8 Thing 18

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us - don't tell!
They'd banish us, you know!

How dreary to be somebody!
How public like a frog
To tell one's name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

Emily Dickinson

I imported this poem I typed from Google Docs. It was the first poem I ever memorized and I loved the mental picture of all these frogs with peoples faces swimming around a swamp.

I am really excited to learn about these online productivity tools. It opens a whold new world of possiblities for me. I will be able to write a letter, save it and send it even when I forget my thumb drive and I don't have to worry about different versions of software.

Week 7 Thing 17

Well I had a problem figuring out how to add my blog to the sandbox. It seems someone messed up the home page. I will try again later.

It is later and Heather helped me figure out how to add my blog. It really isn't hard since they fixed the page.

Week 7 thing 16

I found the different wikis very educational. I was intrigued by The SJCPL subject guides and lost myself navigating around interesting subject areas. I also would like to spend some more time in the Library Success wiki. I was doubtful about wikis before I started looking at the ones on the list. I do not like the idea that anyone can add, edit or delete information made me dubious about the reliability of that information. However, I am beginning to see that just because of that reason most of the information is correct. I would like to see my Library start a wiki available to the public. I would be interested in what the public thinks of our Library and what they would like to see us do in the future. A subject guide index like SJCPl's would be a great start. We could include programs we provide along with books and helpful websites.

Week 6 thing 15

Wikipedia has a very clear description of Library 2.0 . I think that one of the most important of the key principles they listed is that "Beta is forever". As a Library we should always try new things and be open to new ways of bringing information to our communities.

Rick Anderson's article "Away from Icebergs" also made me think about the way we are doing things in the Library and what we need to do to keep up with technologyand the world. These are not always comfortable changes to think about.

Week 6 Thing 14

I spent quite a long time looking around Technorati. Each time I went in I looked for Blogs, Blog pPosts and tags on Learning 2.0 and every day I got different numbers of results. I did try to find my blog and came up with one of my postings. When I have more time I would like to spend more time on this site
One thing I did enjoy was the variety of topics that are covered in the different categories and I had real fun clicking on different words in the tag clouds. I fel like I have a bad case of information overload.

Week 6 thing 13

The 12 minute Del.icio.us tutorial was not available today, so I went to the Del.icio.us website and read through their "about" section. I felt that it explained thoroughly what the website was about. They even included tagging with examples and how to. This site might be helpful for use on the info desk. The information staff could mark and tag helpful sites. It could make searches faster and easier.
PLCMCL2's account had a lot of familiar information on it. I went to a few bookmarked spots and enjoyed the comments made by other people who had marked the site. I enjoyed the tag clouds and found myself in some strange places ( I couldn't even read the language)when I clicked on the tags.

Week 5 Thing 12

I feel like I have been rollyoed, but it is linked on the sidebar and anyone with a Health question just check out my search engine What's up, Doc?

Week 5 Thing 11

I thought that listing my favorite Books on LibraryThing would be easy and it was. My biggest problem was remembering the books. I will update it later as I think of the hundreds of books that I love. I had a little difficulty getting my titles to display on a sidebar on my blog, but after a few attempts I succeeded.

Week 5 Thing 10

I did it . I saved a picture of my dog, copied it to the desktop and then uploaded it to dumpr. They changed itinto a pencil sketch and you can see the results. I think the actual picture was better, but this was a lot of fun. I also made another avatar in yahoo.com this time. I wish I had all the options for clothes, hair color and backgrounds that were available there.

Week 4 Thing 9

I am already familiar with Merlin, having explored some of it while doing the Thomson e-learning. I had no trouble adding it to my blogline accounts. I took a brief look at the 4 search tools and used Topix to add a feed for my home town. It was easy. Feedster was not very friendly to use and I gave up after just a few minutes. I will go back when I have a large chunk of time and explore Technorati more carefully.

Week 4 Thing 8

With lots of help from my friends, I successfully set up my Bloglines account. I had to stop myself from adding too many feeds, because there were so many interesting sites. I really liked being able to put on a weather feed for Keuka Lake's weather. This will save me a lot of time aggrevation and pop ups.
Here is the URL to my public Bloglines account:
http://www.bloglines.com/public/keukagirl
But Thanks to Erin I learned how to put the listing of my feeds right on my Blog.

Week 3 Thing 7

I love digital photography. My husband bought me a beautiful camera and I love to take pictures. And do I take pictures - hundreds of them. Digital photography makes it so easy. If you don't like a shot just delete it. I just bought Adobe Photshop and am playing around with editing my photos. I have made cards, T-shirts and personalized wallpaper. I admit it, I'm hooked.

Week 3 Thing 6

I had fun looking at the Flickr mashups and 3rd party sites. I really enjoyed making a mosaic on Montagr. If you would like to see the one I made with pictures from Keuka just try this site. Until I figure out how to get a link. You will have to copy and paste the address.

I was thrilled when I found over 2000 pictures in Flickr of this beautiful Finger Lake and couldn't resist putting a picture on my blog.

Week 1 Thing 2

Now that I have created my blog. I am ready to start learning. I found the 7 1/2 habits very interesting. The first 7 are the ones I will have the most trouble with and of course the last 1/2 will be the easiest. I love to play.
I have found the hardest part about learning is getting myself started. Once I take that initial step I usually find that whatever the project is,it is never as bad as it seemed before I jumped in. That goes for these 23 Things. Now that I have started I am excited to find out more. So on to the next challenge.

First Posting

I did it! I created a blog and this is my first posting. What more can I say?!
